Regional competitiveness is a very complex issue researched and analysed for a long time by numerous scholars and academics. In times of a very slow economic recovery after the global economic crisis, this broad question has also been brought to the forefront by politicians, local and regional representatives. The book builds on the assumption that the high level of unemployment is one of the indicators pointing at low competitiveness of the region. The authors elaborate on various related aspects of regional competitiveness, including comparing current specialisation and innovation activity, evaluating the effectiveness of one of the tools for attracting FDI, building and utilising industrial zones, and examining the potential of starting own businesses in terms of citizens' perceptions.
