Profile of Women's employment in the healthcare system in the Czech Republic
Original language description
The health care sector traditionally employs women labour force more than other sectors. Women traditionally face both horizontal and vertical segregation in the health care. Within the health sector, in many countries women comprise over 75% of the workforce, making them indispensable as contributors to the delivery of health care services. The health care sector employs significantly more women than men in the Czech Republic as well as in many European countries. In the year 2013, there were 208,843 women and 57,429 men working in the sector. In 2013, there were 25,984 female and 20,218 male physicians and dentists in the Czech Republic. In the same year, 3,324 women practiced general medicine comparable to 2,005 male practicing in the same field. The largest vertical segregation in the health care sector may be seen in the case of paramedical workers, where women create the large majority. The average monthly salary of physicians and dentists was 60,635 CZK. The average monthly salary of general nurses and midwives was 28,706 CZK.
