On Measuring the Economic Value of Biodiversity

The paper underlines the importance of biodiversity and analyses the utilitarian paradigm limits of neo-classical mainstream economics that prevent revealing the real monetary value of the irreplaceable role which biodiversity plays to humans. It presents a critical evaluation of biodiversity valuation methods currently used by economists and identifies several dogmas of mainstream neo-classical welfare economics that, due to their utilitarianism and subjectivism, substantially reduce and falsify the possibilities of monetary valuations of the nature and biodiversity, themes that are predominantly of public substance. It describes the Hessian method of monetary valuation of biotopes as the carriers of ecosystem functions and services, which encompassesevaluation of aspects of the intrinsic values of the nature and biodiversity.

Příspěvek zdůrazňuje význam biodiversity a analyzuje omezení utilitárního paradigmatu neoklasické ekonomie hlavního proudu, která omezují vyjádření skutečné peněžní hodnoty nenahraditelné úlohy biodiversity pro lidskou společnost. Kritický přehled metodhodnocení biodiversity a identifikace některých dogmat neoklasické ekonomie blahobytu, která vzhledem k utilitarismu a subjektivismu snižuje a zkresluje možnosti peněžního hodnocení přírody a biodiversity, jakožto výsostně společenských témat. Popis hesenské metody peněžního hodnocení biotopů jako nositelů ekosystémových funkcí a služeb, která vyjadřuje aspekty vnitřní hodnoty přírody a biodiversity.
