Adsorption-induced enhancement of the differential pulse polarographic peak of Eu in the presence of natural organic matter: a comparison of different humic substances
Original language description
The polarographic signal (maximum peak current) of europium in the differential pulse polarographic (DPP) mode has been found to increase considerably in the presence of humic substances. Different humic substances, such as coal and peat humic acids, soil fulvic acids, and Aldrich humic acids, exhibited very similar effects on the DPP signal of Eu for the cases when the measurements were carried out under the same conditions. The peak enhancement was more pronounced in sodium acetate with a pH value of7.50 than it was in the acetate buffer with a pH value of 4.65; this effect was related to the reduced complex-forming or metal-binding capability of humic substances at lower pH values. Dependencies of the DPP peak height on the concentration of different humic substances were measured and fitted to a Langmuir-type equation.
