Valuation of Ecosystem Services towards Ecological Citizenship
Original language description
Land systems in almost all developed countries call for a new integrated resource management toward greener sustainable landscape that will cover material needs of current generation while optimizing restoration activities toward the potential natural vegetation. Self-organizing processes in autotrophic ecosystems tend to climax vegetation that is characterized by maximal use of solar energy and by maximal ability to produce life-supporting conditions (composition of atmosphere, mitigation of temperature extremes, cleaning air and water, retaining nutrients, etc.) and to keep the nutrients and water inside the ecosystem. The aim of chapter is to collect arguments confirming that valuation of ecosystem services can promote ecological citizenship consciousness. Two methods of systemic valuation of landscape ? biotope valuation method and Energy-water-vegetation method ? are described and the main ecosystem service values are presented.
