Complete 3D landscape reconstruction based on historical data sources
Original language description
Georelief transfigurations are one of the most visible results of many types of human activities. In the surrounding world is the surrounding landscape changed by many types of anthropogenic activity. The area of the North-West Bohemia (the Czech Republic) is since the 1930' affected by the heavy, mining and chemical industry. All of these factors are affecting not only the landscape shape but the land-use, settlement structure and hydrological network as well. Within this paper we focus on the whole region of Ústí nad Labem. Many different old maps and old map series were discovered in the map-archives covering this area. Almost all of the maps were scanned, processed into a seamless map and significant features contained in the maps were hand-digitized. In this paper is introduced a complete 3D landscape reconstruction of this region based on the old maps. The georelief of the whole Ústí nad Labem region (5300 km2) was reconstructed using the elevation information contained in the State map derived 1:5000 from the year 1953. This very unique data set was compared with the current data obtained from the LIDAR survey as the contemporary maps do not include contour lines in active mining areas. The difference analysis has been performed on the whole region showing all of the large or even small landscape changes. The area with the largest landscape and georelief changes is the Most brown-coal basin. This region has been printed on a 3D printer and the two resulting models (of total size 85 x 120 cm) are representing the former and current state of the landscape in the scale 1:50 000.
