The analysis of a sustainable potential of anthropogenically affected landscape in the northern Bohemia
Original language description
Contribution deals with a future development of an area affected by brown coal mining. The area consists of Chomutov, Most, Teplice and Ústí nad Labem districts located in the northern Bohemia at the foot of the Ore Mountains. Even though the land is severely damaged by the coal mining, the future potential can be sustainable there. Due to good experience with reclamation and restoration processes, the area is constantly renewed and integrated back to the surrounding landscape. It is important to concentrate on renewable energy sources after the brown coal mining in the Most basin will end in 2055. Thanks to the geographical position near the Ore Mountains, the monitoring area can generate energy from wind turbines. The newly restored landscape could also be a good place for energy crops cultivation. Geothermal energy has a future potential in this area too, due to good geological conditions. Transformation to renewable energy sources will ensure better living for the residents dwelling in the monitoring districts. It is important to deal with the issue of energy resources as soon as possible. The significance of sustainable development lies in three basic pillars, ecological, economic and social, that must be taken into an account together. An inclusion of sustainable development rules into decision making processes is necessary to ensure better conditions for future generations.
