CO2 gasification of biomass: The effect of lime concentration in a fluidized bed
Original language description
Calcined limestone or dolomite can be directly used in the fluidized bed (FB) gasification to reform tar compounds in situ, to enhance carbon conversion and cold gas efficiency of the gasification process. Unfortunately, such materials exhibit poorer mechanical properties, attrition, sintering and entrainment. Therefore they have to be replenished continuously or periodically. In this paper the effects of the ratio of calcined dolomitic limestone and silica sand in the FB (0 %, 25 %, 50 % and 100 %vol. of dolomitic limestone) for CO2 + O2 gasification of biomass and comparison with steam + O2 gasification was studied at temperature of 850 oC. The experiments were performed in a semi-auto-thermal spouting FB reactor gasifying 1.4 kg/h of woody biomass. In gasification by steam + O2 optimal results were found with 50 vol. % (35 mass %) lime in the FB (tar dew point 79 oC). At CO2 + O2 gasification the best results have been found for undiluted lime particles (tar dew point 71 oC).
