Virtual reality-based cultural heritage preservation: a case study of interactive Hong Kong porcelain painting simulation through CAVE technology

  • Original language description

Traditional Hong Kong handicrafts, a rich cultural heritage at risk of disappearing due to various factors. This research, focusing on Hong Kong porcelain painting, investigates the preservation of this traditional handicraft through an innovative approach by leveraging advanced computational modeling, virtual reality (VR) simulation, and Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) systems to create interactive, immersive, and dynamic narrative experiences that engage users with traditional porcelain painting stories and techniques. This research demonstrates how this hybrid approach can effectively develop a digital platform for cultural heritage preservation. It helps foster future development and adaptation of the systems and methods employed in this research in other cultural settings, aiming to advance the field of digital cultural heritage preservation.///Tin, L.M., Li, X. & Lam, T.F.
