Original language description

The state of Sarawak, situated on northern part of the Borneo Island, is the part of Malaysia Federation. Main raw materials usable for the Sarawak economy are oil, wood and natural gas. Nowadays the importance of brown coal as a raw material is caused by the growing needs of power in the Sarawak. It is the reason of working trip of authors of this article to the area of Merit Pila. Merit Pila is great coal basin situated in central Sarawak. The paper briefly summarises the geological, stratigraphical,mineralogical and structural situation of the basin and situation of coal mining in this area. The main attention is devoted to methodology of coal mining. The greatest coal basin of the state of Sarawak is the basin Mukah. The basin is situated in western Sarawak. The paper briefly summarises the history of survey works and the methodology of coal mining.

Czech description

Stát Sarawak situovaný v severní části ostrova Borneo, je součástí Malajské federace. Hlavní mi surovinami státu jsou ropa, dřevo a zemní plyn. Vzhledem k energetickým potřebám v současnosti roste význam hnědého uhlí. To byl důvod pracovní cesty autorů článku do oblasti Merit Pila. Merit Pila je velká uhelná pánev situovaná v centrální části Sarawaku. Příspěvek stručně shrnuje geologickou, statigrafickou a strukturní situaci pánve včetně aktuální těžby uhlí. Metodologii dobývání uhlí je v příspěvku věnována největší pozornost. Pánev Mukah je největší uhelnou pánví státu Sarawak. Je situovaná v severním Sarawaku. Příspěvek stručně shrnuje historii průzkumných prací a metodologii dobývání uhlí.
