Historically important discoveries of precious stones in the Krušné hory and the České středohoří mountains, locality present situation and protection
Original language description
The region of North-western Bohemia and Southern Saxony, which includes the Czech and the Saxon part of the Krušné hory mountains from Jáchymov to Ústí nad Labem and the České středohoří mountains, takes a really exceptional place in the history of precious stones? extraction. Historically significant localities of precious stones conclude two areas. The first of them presented by amethyst and jasper fields on the Krušné hory mountains range and slopes. One of these fields is well-known Ciboušov, stonesof which were used in the chapels of Karlštejn castle by Emperor Charles IV. The topaz locality Schneckenstein is very important too. The second area is presented by pyrope beds in Bohemian Middle Mountains. First Czech diamonds were probably found in small villages Dlažkovice and Chrášťany. This article briefly summarises the history of most important precious stones, situation of significant localities and possibilities of their protection.
