Network robustness analysis based on current road incident data
Original language description
A functioning road network is a vital part of society. The network consists of road sections and intersections which are usually modeled as a graph composed of nodes and links. The most important property of the network from the point of view of its users is its robustness, which means its ability to endure diverse types of catastrophic events caused by various artificial or natural reasons. We used a database of road blockage events which have been collected by Czech road administrators as of 2010. This data enabled us to model road blockage disruption probabilities using intensities and frequencies of events including the catastrophic ones. The probabilities were used as input into our model which is able to evaluate the robustness of the network based on three different strategies. The first strategy covers all possible states of the network including tail risk events. The other two strategies can be understood as special versions of an attack-repair strategy. Our model is also able
