Living with the pandemy in Nepal

  • Original language description

In contrast to other pandemics in history, the COVID-19 crisis has caused rapid policy responses whose very complex and wide social, economic and environmental impacts are larger than those stemming directly from the health problem originated by the virus. The interrelated impacts of the policy responses are still unfolding, and, after the first pandemic wave, it is difficult to evaluate the whole situation. However, one thing is certain – the impacts of the responses are uneven. Different sectors have been impacted disproportionately, the most affected being education, tourism, transportation, and elderly care. Generally, the economic and social inequality and instability are increasing, sometimes even extremely. As a typical example, Nepal can be mentioned. However, there is one area that has seen an improvement due to the pandemic in Kathmandu – and this is water supply.
