Validation of MELCOR 2.1 Code Against OECD THAI HM2 Test
Original language description
The main thermal hydraulics issue in the containment of LWR?s under severe accident conditions is the hydrogen distribution. The experimental validation of containment simulation codes was based on experiments conducted long time ago and they usually used helium for a simulation of hydrogen. One of objectives of the OECD THAI project was to investigate a result transferability of existing tests with helium on hydrogen distribution problems. The test series HM (Hydrogen Mixing) contains two tests with asidentical as possible initial and boundary conditions; the only difference is the light gas used ? helium in test HM-1 and hydrogen in test HM-2. The second main objective of the HM tests was to investigate conditions for the hydrogen rich cloud erosionby a steam plume and the break up of the light gas stratification. The test conduct consists of two main phases ? filling of upper part of the facility (?dome?) with helium or hydrogen and erosion of the light gas cloud with a steam plum
