Analysis of the Influence of PAR Elevation on its Performance Using a LP Code MELCOR 1.8.6
Original language description
Recently, within the frame of the OECD/NEA THAI program, it has been demonstrated that the lumped parameter code MELCOR 1.8.6 is suitable for simulating PAR unit operation under various atmospheric conditions. The tests selected for the code validation were the Hydrogen Recombination experiments HR-3 and HR-12, which are characterized, respectively, by ambient temperature, slightly elevated pressure and no steam content and elevated temperature, elevated pressure and saturated atmosphere. During the HR-3 test a spontaneous hydrogen deflagration occurred, which, however, was not modeled by MELCOR. The HR-12 test was, on its turn, characterized by oxygen starvation conditions, which were due to high steam content in the THAI test vessel. Presented at OECD/NEA THAI Project Concluding Seminar, Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, 6.10.2010.
