Characterization of Mechanical Properties by Small Punch Test
Original language description
Maintaining the required properties for structures and components working in critical environments (e.g. different structural parts of power plants) requires regular information about degradation processes in their materials. Obtaining this information by means of classic mechanical properties tests (tensile test, Charpy test, fracture toughness test, creep test etc.) is very limited in the case of nuclear power plants pressure vessels. Thus, new innovative techniques based on miniaturized specimens have been developed for evaluating mechanical properties and following their changes. One of these is the Small Punch Test. This paper presents the characterization of three different steels (15Ch2MFA, 10GN2MFA with different heat treatments and 08Ch18N10 with various degrees of deformation) by this test in order to validate its future application to samples taken from working conditions.
