The ÚJV Řež, a. s. is involved in analytical studying of the applicability of the In-Vessel Retention strategy for the VVER-1000/320 reactor type (especially the Temelin NPP). The important part of analytical activities are the integral analyses of the accident progress and overall boundary conditions for specific analytical activities which are performed with the CFD Fluent code (corium behavior with estimation of the heat flux to the vessel wall distribution and coolant behavior in the reactor cavity) and the RELAP-3D code (coolant behavior in the reactor cavity). The most important information from the integral analysis covers the corium composition, decay power reduction due to volatile fission product release, but also containment response, which is very important for the evaluation of possible strategies of the water supply to the cavity as well as the heat removal from the containment. The analytical simulation with the MELCOR code (recent version MELCOR 2.2) are performed for the postulated accident scenario initiated with the LB LOCA with developing events of the loss of all active systems with the exception of systems for the severe accident mitigation – system for the primary system depressurization (not applied for LB LOCA initiated scenario) and flooding of cavity and continuous water supply as the containment design of the VVER-1000/320 does not enable passive water drainage to cavity from the containment. The specific intention is focused on the results processing. The UJV initiated the project for the development of the new and UJV owned visualization tool called VINSAP (shortcut of Visualization of NPP Severe Accident Progress for Training on SAM). This tool will enable to create the visualization screen easy way using pre-prepared components. The tool is developed for visualization of the MELCOR code, but it could be extended to other codes with development of new interface of the analytical tool output to internal programming roles.
