Possibilities of Using Social Andragogy in the Care of Mentally Ill
Original language description
The development and the course of mental illnesses is significantly influenced by psychological and social factors. The patient's condition to some extent depends on the reactions of such encounters in its vicinity, usually in the family. The aim of long-term treatment is to prevent the disease coming back. Pharmacotherapy supplemented by psychoeducation is one of the most effective practices. The main task is to provide patients and their relatives in-depth information on the nature of the disease and treatment options. Educational programs improve the health status of clients, reduce the number and length of hospitalizations, number of outpatient controls and, in effect, reduce treatment costs. The practice shows that psychoeducation mentally illness is the job description primarily of doctors, paramedical and social workers. The space can be covered but also for the social andragogists, socially andragogic adviser.
