In mechanical engineering, there is often a need for precise positioning of physical objects such as workpieces, tools, assembled components, conveyed materials, finished products etc. The positioning device can be the moving axis of a machine tool, rotary positioning table, robotic manipulator and many other cases. In such cases it is necessary to accelerate and brake objects of considerable weight. It follows therefrom that positioning system drives work with relatively high forces and torques and relatively low speeds.
