Loading of working surfaces of cams – contact pressure
Original language description
"During cam mechanism operation the fatigue damage of the contact surfaces of the cam and the roller can occur. This damage can be in the form of pittings or micropittings or the abrasion may occur, and at the surface-coated cams the surface layer may peel. The pitting is a surface fatigue damage of the material due to long-term cyclic stress loading above the fatigue life of the material. The pits about 1 mm occur, which result from spreading the subsurface cracks, or the larger surface portions of the material can peel."
