The invention describes method for removing a weft incorrectly inserted by a hydraulic pick. The weft removal is executed by a sequence of conditioned and successive activities controlled by the machine control system and performed without the intervention of an operator. In the event of a faultless course, the identification of the wrongly placed weft in the fabric, the removal of the wrongly placed weft, the replacement of the weft with a new one, and the final automatic restart of the machine into the normal operating mode are provided. The automatic weft removal utilizes, for its activities, some of the systems used standardly in the machine and the control system of the weft removal and then the controls of the placement of the new weft into the shed. The device comprises the weft length measuring device assigned to the picking nozzle which is located on one side of the shed and is directed to the other side of the shed in the width direction of the fabric being produced. On the frame of the machine, there is placed the weft range stopper and the means for the weft discontinuation. The picking nozzle is connected to the pump of the picking system, which is connected to the actuation. The measuring device, the actuation of the pump for the weft discontinuation and the weft range stopper are connected to the control system of the weaving machine. The actuation of the pump of the picking system comprises the individual actuation, mechanically independent of the other nodes and elements of the hydraulic weaving machine and connected to the control system. On the shed side, the further one from the picking nozzle, the weft removal sensor is located, which is also connected to the control system.
