    In the method of controlling the weft insertion into the shed (6) on an air-jet weaving machine, the weft (5), during its travel through the shed (6), acts by means of the auxiliary air stream from the relay nozzles (8), the weft contact times (5) are monitored and the parameters of the action by means of the auxiliary air flow from the relay nozzles (8) are adjusted accordingly during the next pick. From the weft range times (5), within a number (n) of consecutive wefts, the statistical mean value and the statistical deviation of the mean value, at least for each section (9) of the relay nozzles (8) along the length of the pick, are continuously determined. The mean value is used for setting the mean value of the interconnection interval of each relay nozzle (8) section (9) in order to support the pick depending on the angle of the working speed of the machine and the value of the statistical deviation is multiplied by the degree of (k) of certainty of the probability (p) of the range. This multiplied value is used for setting the start and the end of the interconnection interval of each relay nozzle (8) section (9) in order to support the pick depending on the angle of the working speed of the machine so the start and the end moments, and thus the length of the interconnection of the individual relay nozzle (8) sections (9), are adjusted adaptively and automatically based on the range time statistics of the specified number (n) of the previous picks. This adaptively optimizes compressed air consumption and energy intensity by the current actual machine conditions. The invention also relates to a weaving machine for implementing the method.
