VÚTS, a.s. produces KP series indexing gearboxes, featuring a pair of radial cams and an indexing turret follower equipped with rollers. These gearboxes are designed to transform the uniform rotary motion of an input camshaft into unidirectional rotary motion, characterized by precisely defined dwell intervals in the output shaft movement. Due to multiple contacts between the rollers and the conjugate cam pair, it is necessary to provide certain reliefs at specific cam areas, both in the profile of the cam pair and the sides of the cams. These reliefs are created to prevent redundant roller/cam connections, thereby avoiding unnecessary impacts in the mechanism, which increase in noise during operation. A specialized test device, fitted with the KP series indexing gearbox, was developed to evaluate the effect of the reliefs’ dimensions and shapes on the working surfaces and sides of the cams, impacting gearbox performance. The dynamic properties of the gearbox operation, influenced by the relief parameters of the conjugate cam pair, were analyzed using the RMS acceleration values in correlation with the camshaft revolutions.
