The Use of Iron Aluminides in the Furnace Environment
Original language description
The ferrous alloys with high content of aluminium was investigated as potential substitution of Cr or Cr-Ni steels. They are characterized by corrosion resistance in HT environments, by of lower density and low material cost compared to other iron basedtrade name PYROFERAL was fabricated from the fifties in the foundry Kdyne. Melt crucibles, grids, paddles, HT lining plates and other furnace accessories were cast from PYROFERAL (czech standard CSN 42 2484).The material contains 30 wt.% Al and 1 wt.% C,the castability is comparable with grey iron. The materials which contains 1. 29,5 hm.% Al 0,92 hm.% C 0,60 hm.% Si 2. 30,1 hm.% Al 0,80 hm.% C 0,20 hm.% Si was tested as holders for carburization furnaces in SKODA - AUTO, Mladá Boleslav (automotiv factory). The holders were cast in CZ Strakonice - Foundry division using 100kg induction furnace. Optical structure and hardness were examined of both unemployed and at high temperature emploeyd as-cast products.
