    Carbon nanotubes (CNTs ? long cylindrical carbon nanostructures) have attracted much research effort since their discovery in 1991. The mechanism of their oriented growth is not fully understood yet. Our FEMLAB computations support the hypothesis that the CNTs alignment is caused by the electric forces acting on CNTs tips in the DC plasma sheath. To verify the reliability of the 3-D FEMLAB modeling we computed electric characteristics of a conductive sphere placed in a homogeneous electric field and compared them with their theoretical values.
