RELAXATION OF FIBER-REINFORCED COMPOSITES: FEM SIMULATIONS
Original language description
The paper presents a study in Comsol Multiphysics 3.3 of the viscoelastic stress response of fiber-reinforced composites at large strains. One or two families of fibers are embedded in the rubber-like matrix material. The Helmholtz free energy is used todescribe the behavior of anisotropic composites and it is decoupled into the volumetric, isochoric and anisotropic parts. The viscoelastic response is modeled by Maxwell elements consisting of springs and dash-pots, hence the decoupled stress response consists of equilibrium and nonequilibrium parts. The non-equilibrium viscoelastic stresses are evolving internal variables governed by rate equations.
