CHAMBER-TYPE IGNITION FOR AN SI ENGINE
Original language description
The paper presents a spark plug with integrated ignition chamber, which allows simultaneous ignition of the prepared mixture both in the ignition and a small amount of mixture an a protected volume (ignition chamber) at the bottom of the spark plug. Thiscreates a jet of burning mixture from the ignition chamber into the compression volume. The energy of the flame jet flowing into compression volume of the engine cylinder to ignite the mixture is fully 100 times higher than the energy of a high-voltagespark plug discharge. Additional energy for the development of mixture combustion in the initial phase decreases the cylinder variability. Investigations into the spark plug with ignition chamber are conducted using numerical simulations and by experimentation on a car SI engine different ignition chambers designs (visual inspection of initial phase of burning, high-pressure indication, engine power data).
