The paper is concerned with the detected factors influencing the stability of pressed self-contained spools. Apart of other things, the studied factors have included in particular the types of employed bonding agents, duration and performance of the drying by microwave heating, measuring of temperature of heated spools and the so-called dwell, i.e. the time during which the pressed spools are maintained in compressed condition after the microwave heating, and their effects on resulting dimension parameters of the spools once these operations have been completed and the packages removed from the appliance. The studied self-contained spools have included in particular the self-contained underthread packages for shuttles of lock stitch sewing machines, where it is expedient and desirable to get as much material of a precisely defined length as possible into the volume of the spool, determined by the size of the looper of the sewing machine.
