Abstract: The article is concerned with the drive of small-diameter knitting machines of the series Ange. The properties of this drive in operation and the impact on the overall dynamics of the machine are very individual, because the machine operates inseveral knitting regimes characterised by different dynamic impacts on the whole system. In the present paper the mechanism is assessed from two points of view. The first assessed one is a mechanism trying to describe the behaviour of the existing drivefactually, with emphasis on the effect of plays in the set of gears. During the meshing of a gear set that contains plays there are produced impacts, generating vibrating transition effects. These effects exert influence on the overall dynamic behaviourof the machine / vibrations of the machine; therefore, the effort is directed at the suppression of plays in general. The following step is a comparison of the existing mechanism with a mechanism where plays have been suppressed.
