Cutting Tool Wear Determination by Measuring Tool Shank Deformation
Original language description
This article shows on possibility to use direct measurement of the tool shank deformation for determination the state of the cutting edge. It is well known that cutting forces are changing with the tool wear. But the changes are not linear and it is verydifficult to use a selected force for effective monitoring. Therefoe the ratio of forces could be possibel to give necessary information. For the forces measurement it is necessary to use dynamometer and this one is undesirable for use in shop floor. Therefore it was used for solution the ratio of deformation created by cutting forces on the body of the tool shank. Deformations of the turning tool were measured on the all four surfaces of the shank body in close propinquity og the cutting tool nose. Outcomes of the research shown in the presented contribution give optimistic result.
