Kinetics of tearing process of thin steel sheets under static loading
Original language description
The fracture toughness of extremely ductile materials cannot be described by critical stress intensity factor Kc or the critical value of the J-integral. The process of ductile tearing of thin-sheet materials is typical for various structures, such as car bodies or aircraft fuselage shells. Tearing toughness GIIIc gives more realistic view than KIc determined for the mode I. One method for evaluation of fracture toughness GIIIc for thin-sheet materials subjected to tearing is the ?trouser tearing test?.Two steel sheets were compared in this article: deep-drawing ferrite steel (IF) 1.95 mm thick and feritte-pearlite steel (F-P) 1.8 mm thick. Process of tearing can be divided into five following phases: I ? uniform deformation, II ? crack initiation, III - load decreasing, IV - stable tearing, V ? buckling. Optimum evaluation of GIIIC is in stable tearing phase where the load and radius of curvature of the bent part of specimen remains stable. Plastic deformation in the notch root was h
