    The article summarizes existing information about compacted graphite iron and findings form authors´ own experimental melts conducted in workshop of KSP at TU of Liberec. Goals of experiments were determination of optima rare earth elements amount for treatment, influence of casting wall thickness, chemical composition and flow volume of melt in foundry mould on microstructure and mechanical properties of thin-walled castings for automotive industry.
