    Visualisation of the electrospinning process

  • Original language description

Detailed examination of an electrospinning process is necessary to understand the behavior of the electrospun polymer solution in the electric field and its formation into nanofibers. For this purpose various devices and methods can be used. This work deals with visualization of the electrospinning process and identification of the critical conditions of an electrospinning. At the start of the electrospinning process, the character and the stability of the forming polymeric droplet/layer at the spinner orifice was investigated using a HD camera and a high-speed camera. The experiments were focused on both the uniform polymeric layer and the polymeric two-layer in the case of coaxial electrospinning. Subsequently, the work was focused on a formation and position of the Taylor cone, on the critical value of the characteristic wavelength λ and on the polymeric jets. Occurrence of corona discharges generated by the highly charged polymeric jets roots was also observed using the Corona Camera. These visualizations methods allow to examine stability of the Taylor cones and duration of polymeric jets. These visualization methods are very important for a better understanding of the electrospinning process and also valuable for setting up of the optimal parameters of electrospinning as the number of generated jets on the polymeric layer relates to the productivity of a spinning electrode.
