Original language description
Alcohol-based fuels produced from food feedstocks such as sugar beet, sugar cane, maize, grain, potatoes, are called first generation biofuels. In order to decrease the competition between of fuel and food production, due to limited suitable soil area, biofuels form non-food based crops are introduced. These fuels from non-food renewable resources, produced from agricultural and forestry waste (straw, bark, wood chips) are named second generation biofuels.
