Relationship between sound absorption and transfer properties of Struto nonwoven fabrics

  • Original language description

This paper presents an investigation on sound absorption behavior, air permeability and thermal properties of Struto nonwoven fabrics and their relationships. Seven Struto nonwoven fabrics were selected for the examination of sound adsorption through obtaining average values of sound absorption coefficients (α) as well as air permeability and thermal insulation properties. It was also observed that sound absorption has an insignificant correlation with thermal conductivity while it strongly correlates with thermal resistance. The correlation coefficient of α and thermal resistance was 0.94853, which is an indication that that α is directly proportional to thermal resistance of lofty nonwovens. It was also observed that α was inversely proportional to air permeability, with a correlation coefficient of 0.95. It was concluded that a higher thermal resistance and lower air permeability indicates a better sound absorption performance for a Struto nonwoven fabric.
