Summary of the properties and benefits of glass mechanically frosted with an abrasive brush
Original language description
Modifications to the surface structure of float glass are among the most common application procedures of a given material used in many industries, especially in the building industry and housing architecture. The aim is to reduce the transparency of otherwise clear soda-lime glass. Typically, the chemical technology of acid-etching or the mechanical technology of sandblasting are used for this purpose. The application of both of these methods has its advantages, but it is also accompanied by a number of negative aspects, including environmental impacts. Due to the development of modern methods and materials, a new, advanced and above all ecological technology of mechanical glass frosting has been developed using an abrasive roller brush with composite filaments. The introductory chapters of this paper characterize the processes of glass surface treatment using this technology. Subsequent chapters provide an analytical summary of the results of extensive research of the mechanical, optical and practical properties of brush-matted glass. Knowledge of these properties determines the application potential of the given method and provides the initial data for predicting the behaviour of the selected frosted products. In the conclusion, the results are thoroughly evaluated and discussed in comparison with other existing products.
