    Fe-Al-Si-X based intermetallic alloys

  • Original language description

Fe–Al–Si–X intermetallic alloys are promising candidates for high-temperature structural applications. This study investigates Fe–28Al–Si alloys microalloyed with Mo, Ti, B, V, W, and Nb, analyzed in the as-cast state and after heat treatment at 800 °C/100 h. Microstructural characterization revealed distinct grain size groups and strengthening mechanisms based on solid solution strengthening and incoherent precipitates. Compression tests performed at room temperature and 600–800 °C identified compositions with superior yield strength depending on temperature. Thermal expansion measurements showed linear behavior for all alloys, with selected compositions exhibiting reduced coefficients up to 800 °C, indicating good potential for high-temperature applications.
