Mathematical model of negative feedback regulation photosynthesis in plants

  • Original language description

Plant photosynthesis is performed by a complex, strongly regulated system with light serving as an energetic input and, indirectly, as a dominant regulatory signal. Harm. modulated light of a long period (typically tens of seconds) as an input that is expected to yield output signals highiy sensitive to relatively slow regulatory processes. In the accompanying, we show that the harmonically modulated light elicits a highiy non-linear fluorescence response with resonances appearing at characteristic frequencies and with strong upper harmonie modes. The light activation of ATP-ase or the activation of RUBISCO are known examples of positive feedback mechanisms where as the non-photochemical quenching or state transitions represent, in photosynthesis, the negative feedback regulation. In the present paper,we explore mathematical models assuming that the observed complex non-linear response of plants to harmonie forcing reflects a generalized feedback regulation by a sensor component.
