Mathematical Modelling of Fluid Flow in Fractured Environment
Original language description
Modelling of flow in fractured environment is very important problem for applied hyrogeology (for example for simutations of the neighbourhood of the radioactive waste repositories). Standard approach to this problem is based on replacement replacement of the fracture environment in disrupted rock massif by the porous-media continuum with equivalent hydraulic permeability. This approach is not very exact for problems where dimensions of the computational domain are comparable with the longitudial dimensions of fractures (meters to tens of meters). Stochastic discrete fracture network approach is more suitable for such problems. We present model of the fluid flow based on this approach. We use the hybridization of the lowest order Raviart-Thomas mixed finite element method to treat the resulting locally second order elliptic problem with discontinuous permeability tensor.
