Automated reading of digital display
Original language description
"Although many measuring instruments with digital display have the possibility of send measured data to the PC; some producers do not respect this trend. Since, on the other hand, there are cheap cameras and graphical SW, a possibility exists to automatiThe paper deals with the use of 2D convolution for digit recognition, while typical systems use the contrast approach. The contrast is applied in the first step in order to reduce noise, unwanted illumination etc. First attempts have shown that the simplest approach to read whole digits is not possible. However the individual segment reading gave surprisingly good results. With an exception of figure 1 and 7 only the number of peaks was enough to recognise the digThe realized program is presented and typical results are discussed in the paper. The accuracy of the system is very good, however, the response takes several seconds on slow computers (Intel 450 MHz).
