The Effect of Nitroxide Degradation of Polypropylene on the Melt-Electrospinning Performance
Original language description
The paper describes the experimental testing of the controlled degradation of polypropylene macromolecular chains. The main goal was preparing the polymeric material with the defined average molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution optimized for the melt-electrospinning process. The nitroxide radical macromolecular scission initiator was used. The effect of initiator concentration, degradation time and shearing was studied. The rate of the macromolecular degradation was characterizedby evaluation of the changes in the rheological parameters. Prepared samples of degraded polypropylene were melt-electrospun on the self designed laboratory spinning apparatus. Performance of the prepared polymer samples in the melt-electrospinning process was compared by the evaluation of the SEM microscopy pictures of formed fibers.
