Channel flow dilution measurement used for tunnel inflow evaluation
Original language description
A tunnel inflow is an important source of data to predict hydraulic properties of a rock massif. We used the dilution method to evaluate the flow rate into a tunnel collection canal. The tunnel (2600 m) is located in a granite massif in Jizera Mountainsin the Czech Republic. A tracer substance (potassium bromide ? KBr) was being injected by a peristaltic pump continually and the conductivity was measured in selected points of the collection canal continuously. Flow rates in various parts of the tunnelwere calculated from the differences among conductivities. Then the measured flow rate was used for the inverse calculation of the equivalent hydraulic conductivity of the rock massif by a 2D numerical model. The resulting values corresponded with literature data stated for the Bohemian massif.
