Recently, industrial development unavoidably generates large volumes of wastewater that contain emulsified oil/water mixtures. Preparing highly efficiently, cost-effective, and easy scale-up membranes for separation technology is challenging. Herein, various polymeric membranes based on electrospun nanofiber web. Polyamide 6 (PA6), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polyacrylonitrile nanofibers were prepared needle-free electrospinning technique. Using heat-press, nanofiber webs were transferred on a substrate to create hybrid structure. Membrane surface morphology was investigated using a scanning electron microscope. The average pore size of the membranes was measured using custom-made porometer. The pore size of the PA6, PAN and PVDF membranes was found 0.64µ, 0.5 µ and 0.72µ, respectively. Oil-water mixture were prepared and membrane was immersed half in oil, half in water. The flux, selectivity and affinity of the membranes were compared. According to results, PA6 and PAN nanofibers showed hydrophilic/oleophobic performance and separated water from oil-water mixture. Contrary, PVDF membranes showed hydrophobic/oleophilic performance and separated oil from oil-water mixture. The flux of PA6, PAN and PVDF membranes flux was 5.84 L/(m2h), 4 L/(m2h), and 6.27 L/(m2h), respectively. It was found that the type of polymeric membranes had the biggest influence on the membrane selectivity for the oil-water mixture. The as-prepared membranes can be of great use in new separation technology and have great potential to deal with the separation of oil–water mixture in the near future due to their different selectivity, excellent physical/chemical resistance and mechanical properties.
