Paper describes the European Union type of federalism, and the structure of the federal government in the European Union (EU). The EU is particular type of federation, it is more a confederation. Subsidiarity represents the EU model of federalism. Paperanalyzes three important characteristics of federation: constitutional or conventional basement of federation, position of the central government, and allocation of the fiscal instruments.

Subsidiarita představuje model federalismu EU. Článek analyzuje tři důležité charakteristiky federace: ústavní či smluvní základ federace, postavení ústřední vlády a alokaci fiskálních nástrojů.
