An ontological framework towards unplanned information system outages in organizations
Original language description
The current work introduces a modern ontological model for enterprise business continuity management. The proposed framework can serve as a standard ontological model for the timely recovery planning of an information system in case of an unforeseen interruption of its operation. The model has been developed based on, firstly, ontologies dependent on the level of generality and, secondly, ontologies for crisis management including communication as a core entity. The model’s entities are formulated based on the factors that affect the recovery complexity of an information system and its involved business processes. Terms from the Use Case Points theory of software complexity estimation are used towards this scope. Having published a similar theory regarding the IT business function recovery, namely Business Continuity Points, the author aims to the creation of a complete version of the latter via its ontological representation. The current paper includes the model’s primary and informal representation. The new model can be utilized by both business managers and researchers.
