Revolving Knitting Elements
Original language description
In many technologies was reversible linear movement replaced by rotation, for example steam turbines in power stations (steam engine is nice and elegant, but suitable for Manchester Museum and not for power engineering). Textile machinery have brought strong innovation in shuttleless weaving, open end spinning and non-woven technologies (20th century). In knitting production the principles known in 19 century or even sooner successfully survives. Is the reason old inventors geniality or contemporary designers inability? I believe in the first case as some attempts were made in the last century, as well in the Czechoslovakia. There are at least two patents of revolving knitting elements (Mr. Plachy and Mr. Hicl). This principle is interesting but connected with some problems. Working elements that replace reversibly moving needle contains two or three notches (dents) that enable continuously catch the yarns and knock over the stitches. ?
