Cotton yarn and fabric production: current and future trends
Original language description
Fiber properties and yarn structure are responsible for yarn properties; in turn yarn properties and fabric structure govern fabric properties. Yarn structure is mainly characterized by the twist insertion mechanism, and the yarn forming system. This chapter deals with the internal structure of yarns as main parameters characterizing yarn properties. Principles and recent developments in yarn and fabric manufacturing systems are reviewed. This chapter is divided to the main four parts. In the first part, the yarn and fabric properties are studied, followed by the methods characterizing the internal structure of cotton yarns. Second part provides the theoretical calculations of fabric properties in relation to the weave structure. The third part deals with main principles of cotton yarn manufacturing systems, and its effect on yarn properties. Last part deals with the cotton fabric manufacturing systems and the looms used.
