A Mathematical Model of Evaluation of Fibre Orientation in Slivers
Original language description
The directional fiber arrangement in the sliver significantly determines the internal structure and mechanical properties of produced yarn. The experimental method according Lindsley?s idea, based on the weighting of suitable combed cut-off fringes, is used most frequently. But the traditional Lindsley?s evaluation takes some empirical ratios of fringe weights only. We analyzed the experimental process and derived a set of relevant equations for the theoretical determination of measured fringe weights. Our new characteristic of orientation represents the harmonic mean of cosines of angles among short fiber segments and longitudinal direction of sliver. We can also estimate whole probability density function of the directional fiber arrangement in a sliver. Experimental data of polyester sliver compared with the theoretical results show a good accordance. It also bears out the assumption that the directional fiber arrangement in carded sliver is similar to the orientation of fibers in c
