Comparison of measurement of thermal resistance of fabrics under different boundary conditions
Original language description
Thermal resistance of fabrics can be measured between 2 plates maintained at different temperatures, i. e. at the boundary conditions of 1st order (like in case of the ALAMBETA tester), or with one surface subject to parallel air flow like at the Skin models, which presents the boundary condition of 3rd order. In the study, results of measurements of thermal resistance on the extended sets of woven and knitted fabrics are presented. It was found, that in case of measurements on relatively smooth and less porous fabrics, the determined thermal resistance values of fabrics are very similar. However, if the tested fabrics are porous or exhibit rough surfaces, then the results can differ by 15-30%.
