Use of techniques to prepare different forms of nanocellulose from jute fibres
Original language description
The objective of this work was to differentiate between ball milling and acid hydrolysis method of separation of cellulose nanofibrils/nanocrystals based on particle size refinement and structure. This will help to establish the suitability of ball milling process over acid hydrolysis for certain applications. The idea was also to encourage the use of spinning waste in form of short fibres to prepare these nanofillers for reinforcement in nanocomposite applications for biodegradable automotive plastics, food packaging films and agriculture mulch films. Jute fibres were selected for this study. In case of ball milling, jute fibres were pulverised in dry and wet condition to result in nanofibrillar cellulose (NFC). Wet milling was observed more efficientthan dry milling in terms of unimodality of size distribution but no significant reduction in size below 500 nm was obtained even after milling for 3 hours. In an alternative approach acid hydrolysis, jute fibres were resulted in nanocry
